PSYCHOTHERAPY

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy (also psychological therapy or talking therapy) is a psychological method based on regular personal interaction. to help a person change behavior, increase happiness, and overcome problems. It aims to improve an individual's well-being and mental health, resolve or mitigate troublesome behaviors, beliefs, compulsions, thoughts, or emotions, and improve relationships and social skills. There are numerous types of psychotherapy designed either for individual adults, families, or children and adolescents. Certain types of psychotherapy are considered evidence-based for treating some diagnosed mental disorders, and other types have been criticized as pseudoscience. [1]

There are hundreds of psychotherapy techniques, some being minor variations, while others are on very different conceptions of psychology. [2] Most involve one-to-one sessions between the client and therapist, but some are conducted with groups,[3] including families.

Psychotherapists may be mental health professionals such as psychiatrists, psychologists, mental health nurses, clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, or professional counselors. Psychotherapists may also come from different backgrounds, and depending on the jurisdiction may be legally regulated, voluntarily regulated, or unregulated.

Are you or someone you love interested in psychotherapy? You are at the right place! It’s vital to choose the right kind of therapist, for yourself to set you up on a successful path to feel better. Hello, My name is Claudia Ribas, and I am Brazilian who have been living in the United States for the past 30 years. Having faced chronic stressors at home, at work, in relationships, and in the activities of daily life, I understand that immigration and finding yourself in an unknown place, can bring on emotional and social challenges that can be overwhelming. It can also cost you your self-esteem, peace of mind, and most importantly, your clarity of purpose. My professional and personal knowledge of multicultural identity makes me especially sensitive to issues of cultural, selfhood and adjustment and allows me to resonate with your frustration, pain, and ambivalence as we aim to create new foundations for a meaningful life in the society you have chosen. And also work with couples and individuals as they address relationships and general life struggles including GLBT identity, parenting, and adjustment. But why chose me? It’s quite simple! I offer my clients a supportive form of engagement that fosters growth and insight. Together we’ll create a space where you can feel safe, valued, and understood, as we work toward healing, strength, and acceptance. And as you do the work, guided by me as your psychotherapist, you will begin to show up more and more as your true self, with courage and confidence, and transform the way you approach your personal and professional life. What’s more, for me the treatment (journey) is the relationship between therapist and client! Call me today at 914-261-0596 to book an appointment! I look forward to hearing from you!
